Job Title

ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Lead verification for next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communication ASICs within Cisco’s Acacia team. Responsible for developing verification plans, building and supervising testbenches, and improving verification processes for complex DSP and optical designs.

Hybrid role with three days per week at Cisco’s Maynard, MA office; collaborate across ASIC, DSP, design, and lab teams to validate silicon and integrate verification technologies.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Hiring guidance: typically 8+ years of relevant ASIC verification experience (see Education Requirements for degree-equivalent options).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning, implementing, and leading verification activities for complex ASIC designs.

  • Lead creation and execution of detailed verification test plans.
  • Design, develop and maintain verification testbenches and environments.
  • Apply advanced verification methodologies and innovative techniques to complex designs.
  • Review verification code and coverage metrics to ensure design quality.
  • Supervise and coordinate timely execution of test plans across the team.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor verification engineers.
  • Collaborate with design, DSP, and lab teams to validate silicon and incorporate new test technologies and processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Proven experience with modern ASIC verification methodologies, tools, and scripting/programming languages.
  • Strong experience with SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC.
  • Proficiency in C++ and object-oriented verification methodologies.
  • Experience leading technical verification projects and mentoring engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-team coordination.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (e.g., QAM).
  • C++ templates and advanced C++ techniques.
  • Lab silicon bring-up and validation experience.
  • Experience with Formal Verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal) and in-house IP development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, Master's plus 6 years, PhD plus 3 years, or equivalent related work experience. No specific field of study was specified in the posting.
