Job Title

ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior technical lead responsible for verification of next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communications ASICs within Cisco's Acacia team. The role focuses on ensuring design quality through development of verification strategies, test benches, and process improvements while providing technical leadership and mentoring.

Senior-level technical lead. Typical experience expectation: multi-year senior experience (see Education Requirements for degree/experience equivalencies).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of ASIC verification activities and hands-on development of verification infrastructure.

  • Lead development of detailed verification test plans and strategies.
  • Design, implement, and maintain verification test benches and environments.
  • Apply advanced and object-oriented verification methodologies to complex designs.
  • Supervise and coordinate execution of test plans across the verification team.
  • Review verification code and coverage metrics; drive improvements.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers on verification techniques and tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate latest test technologies and processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred skills are listed separately.

  • Must-have: Strong practical experience with ASIC verification methodologies and tools.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog and UVM-based verification.
  • Experience with SystemC and C++ (object-oriented verification and development).
  • Familiarity with scripting and programming for verification automation.
  • Proven ability to develop comprehensive test benches and verification plans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience leading technical efforts and mentoring engineers.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (e.g., QAM).
  • Experience with in-house IP development and laboratory silicon validation.
  • Experience with Formal Verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).
  • Familiarity with advanced C++ features such as templates.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, or Master's degree plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years, or equivalent related work experience.
