ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia

Role Summary

Senior technical lead responsible for verification of next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communication ASICs within Cisco's Acacia business. The role focuses on applying advanced verification methodologies, delivering comprehensive verification plans and environments, and providing technical leadership and mentorship to the ASIC verification team.

This is a hybrid role that requires three days per week onsite at Cisco’s Maynard, MA office.

Experience Level

Senior-level technical lead. The position expects an experienced engineer who can operate independently and lead verification efforts across complex ASIC projects.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include planning, implementing, and overseeing ASIC verification tasks and guiding the verification team.

  • Lead development of detailed and comprehensive verification test plans.
  • Design and develop verification test benches and environments.
  • Apply advanced and innovative verification techniques to complex ASIC designs.
  • Supervise and coordinate execution of test plans and verification activities across the team.
  • Review verification code, testbench architecture, and coverage metrics.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers on verification methodologies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to adopt new test technologies and improve verification processes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with ASIC verification methodologies, tools, and scripting/programming languages.
  • Experience with C++ and object-oriented verification techniques.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-team collaboration and technical leadership.
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, technical environment and to create verification solutions.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (e.g., QAM).
  • Experience with C++ templates and in-house IP development.
  • Lab silicon validation experience.
  • Experience leading ASIC technical teams and using Formal Verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, Master's plus 6 years, PhD plus 3 years, or equivalent related work experience.
