ASIC Top Floorplan Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and optimize floorplans for NVIDIA SoCs and GPUs, collaborating with architects, physical-design leads and package teams during early chip development. Influence early implementation choices to improve area, routing, timing and power while contributing to tooling and automation.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early career. The posting specifies a Masters degree plus 1+ year of equivalent work or learning experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include creating and refining floorplans, resolving physical design issues, and improving tooling and workflows.

  • Develop and optimize chip floorplans in collaboration with architects, design leads and package leads during early design phases.
  • Drive area review processes and identify opportunities to improve area, interconnect and floorplan efficiency.
  • Resolve timing and routing congestion issues by influencing early design and physical implementation decisions.
  • Build and improve tools and infrastructure; apply AI techniques to optimize chip area and execution speed.
  • Work with physical-design and ASIC teams to support power/clock distribution, packaging, place-and-route and timing closure efforts.

Requirements

  • Experience with Verilog, SystemVerilog, or similar hardware verification languages.
  • Experience with CAD and physical-design methodologies, including flow and tool development; familiarity with P&R and timing closure practices.
  • Practical knowledge of chip floorplan work, power/clock distribution and packaging integration.
  • Proficiency in Python, Perl and C/C++ for tooling and automation tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants (for example, GitHub Copilot) in development workflows.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience driving development of large-scale ASIC floorplans.
  • Experience building large projects from the ground up using AI tools.
  • Good spoken English.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering plus 1+ year of equivalent work or learning experience (as stated in the posting).
