ASIC/SOC CAD Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and maintain MatX's physical design CAD flow and infrastructure to deliver performant, functionally correct silicon from RTL to GDSII across compute, memory, and high-speed connectivity. Support automation, EDA tool selection and deployment, vendor engagement, and user support for back-end and some front-end CAD tasks.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 8 years of industry experience in ASIC Physical Design.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include ownership of the physical design flow, automation, tool integration, and operational support.
- Develop, maintain, and improve RTL-to-GDSII physical design flow, including construction and sign-off.
- Automate back-end runs, parse logs, generate reports and metrics, and extract actionable insights.
- Evaluate, select, and deploy EDA tools and methodologies to optimize performance, power, and area.
- Work with EDA vendors to troubleshoot and drive product improvements.
- Train and support flow users and resolve operational issues.
- Manage EDA licenses, compute, and storage resources; optimize for cost and efficiency.
- Provide development and support for front-end CAD flow as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints for the role.
- Minimum 8 years of industry experience in ASIC physical design or CAD.
- Strong proficiency in scripting/programming: Perl, Python, and TCL.
- Expertise with industry-standard physical design and sign-off methodologies (partitioning, floorplanning, synthesis, place & route, clocking, equivalency, extraction, timing, power estimation, EMIR, physical verification).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support cross-functional teams and vendor interactions.
- Ability to work on-site in Mountain View, CA three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday) as part of a hybrid schedule.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with EDA license management, LSF or equivalent job schedulers, and cloud-based silicon development.
- Additional years of ASIC CAD or physical design experience beyond the minimum.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; equivalent practical experience accepted.
