ASIC Physical Design Senior Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
ASIC Physical Design Senior Engineer
Role Summary
Work on digital physical implementation for high-speed interface IP and testchips, driving RTL-to-GDS flows at advanced process nodes (7nm, 5nm, 3nm). Join the Digital Implementation team to deliver silicon-proven IP used in AI accelerators, autonomous vehicles, 5G and high-performance systems.
Experience Level
Senior — the role expects professional-level experience; the posting specifies 3+ years of hands-on ASIC physical implementation experience.
Responsibilities
Execute and lead end-to-end digital physical design activities and support customers and cross-functional teams.
- Drive RTL-to-GDS implementation for interface IPs (SerDes, DDR, HDMI, MIPI, USB) at 7nm/5nm/3nm.
- Perform synthesis, floorplanning, power planning, CTS, placement, routing, and physical verification.
- Run static timing analysis and close timing across multiple corners, voltages, and modes.
- Run EM/IR signoff, analyze IR drop and electromigration, and iterate on power-grid design.
- Develop and maintain automation and methodology scripts (TCL, Python, Perl, Make) to improve flow efficiency.
- Collaborate with RTL, verification, product engineering, and customers to resolve design and integration issues.
- Provide technical support during IP integration and debug silicon-related issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of preferred extras.
- 3+ years of hands-on ASIC physical implementation experience, specifically RTL-to-GDS flows using industry-standard EDA tools.
- Deep understanding of IC design fundamentals, physical implementation flows, and signoff methodologies for deep-submicron designs.
- Proficiency with industry-standard data formats: Verilog, GDS, LEF, DEF, SDF, LIB, UPF/CPF, SPEF.
- Strong scripting skills for automation: TCL, Python, Perl, Unix shell, and Make.
- Solid written and verbal English for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with Synopsys tools such as Fusion Compiler, IC Compiler II, PrimeTime, StarRC.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (as stated in the posting).
