ASIC Physical Design Engineer
BroadcomJob Title
ASIC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement large-scale ASICs (100–400M gates) in advanced process nodes (7nm–2nm). Deliver end-to-end physical implementation and verification within a chip implementation team collaborating with RTL, timing, verification and back-end groups.
Experience Level
Senior - minimum 8 years of relevant physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include end-to-end physical implementation and verification of large ASIC designs.
- Execute full RTL-to-GDS or Gates-to-GDS flows: synthesis, placement, clock-tree synthesis, detailed routing, and GDS generation.
- Perform static timing analysis, formal verification, and physical verification (DRC/LVS) to ensure design closure.
- Optimize physical implementation for performance, area and power using commercial and in-house EDA tools.
- Collaborate with RTL, timing, verification and back-end teams to resolve implementation issues and meet project schedules.
- Document design decisions and support troubleshooting throughout the implementation cycle.
Requirements
Essential qualifications and preferred skills.
- Must-have: 8+ years of hands-on ASIC physical design experience, including timing closure and full implementation flows.
- Must-have: Practical experience with commercial and/or in-house EDA tools (examples: Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens) and physical verification flows.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of GPU/CPU/DSP architectures and related physical design techniques.
- Nice-to-have: Proficiency with UNIX/Linux and scripting for flow automation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Computer Engineering.
