ASIC FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design, verify, and document ASIC and FPGA systems for mission-critical defense applications. Work covers architecture, system simulation, RTL design, synthesis, place-and-route verification, and hardware integration in lab environments.
Experience Level
Entry-level. Typical qualification: Bachelor's in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related field) plus 2 years of relevant experience, or Master's plus 6 months of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include system architecture, detailed design, verification, and hardware integration.
- Define and document ASIC/FPGA architectures, module interfaces, and detailed design approach.
- Perform system and module-level simulation and verification; create and execute test plans.
- Perform synthesis, place-and-route analysis, timing closure, and power estimation.
- Verify test results, analyze performance, and iterate on designs.
- Integrate and debug hardware using lab tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG debuggers).
- Evaluate vendor/foundry capabilities, device libraries, and EDA toolchains.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and qualifications.
- Strong proficiency in VHDL for digital design and simulation.
- Hands-on experience with Microsemi and/or Xilinx FPGA development.
- Experience with Vivado, Libero, Mentor, and/or Cadence EDA tools and associated workflows.
- Practical hardware integration and debug experience with laboratory instrumentation and JTAG.
- Solid understanding of ASIC/FPGA engineering processes (design, verification, timing, power).
- Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD security clearance within 18 months.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to mentor junior engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience reviewing foundry/device libraries and vendor tool capabilities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 6 months of relevant experience.
