Job Title

ASIC Floorplan Design Engineer – New College Grad 2026

Role Summary

Entry-level engineering role on a chip physical design team responsible for early floorplanning and area optimization of SoCs and GPUs. Work with architects, design leads, and ASIC teams to influence architectural and physical decisions that affect area, timing, and routability.

Experience Level

Entry-level. Role targets new college graduates (class of 2026) or engineers with 0–2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

You will contribute to early-stage physical design and tooling to improve chip metrics and execution speed.

  • Develop and optimize floorplans in collaboration with architects and design leads.
  • Drive area review processes and identify opportunities to reduce area and improve interconnect.
  • Identify and mitigate timing and routing congestion issues through early design choices.
  • Build and extend tools and infrastructure to automate optimization and improve turnaround.
  • Collaborate with RTL, verification, physical design, and packaging teams to meet system constraints.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience expected for immediate contribution.

Must-have:

  • Strong hardware engineering background with focus on VLSI and/or computer architecture.
  • Experience with Verilog/SystemVerilog or similar hardware verification languages (HVLs).
  • Familiarity with CAD and physical design methodologies: floorplan, power/clock distribution, placement & routing, and timing closure.
  • Proficiency in scripting or programming (Python, Perl, C/C++).
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience or coursework in floorplanning tools and physical-design automation.
  • Past projects or internships that involved tool development or chip-level tradeoff analysis.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering preferred; equivalent practical experience accepted. Position specifically targets new college graduates (2026).
