Job Title

ASIC Firmware and Diagnostic Intern

Role Summary

Join the Slingshot ASIC Firmware and Diagnostic team as an undergraduate intern to develop firmware and diagnostic tooling for ASIC boards. The role focuses on C firmware development, Python-based diagnostics, Linux-based development and testing, and collaboration with hardware and software teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Intern). Intended for students currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a technical field.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for this internship role include development, testing, and documentation.

  • Write, test, and debug C code for Slingshot ASIC board firmware.
  • Develop and maintain Python diagnostic tooling, data collectors, parsers, and test utilities.
  • Create and maintain Bash scripts for automation, builds, and test harnesses.
  • Work in a Linux development environment and use Git for version control; participate in code reviews.
  • Design, implement, and run automated tests and diagnostic workflows to validate firmware.
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, and Software teams to implement features and resolve issues.
  • Document code, test plans, results, and user guides; contribute to the internal knowledge base.
  • Learn and apply ASIC firmware development practices and debugging techniques.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and abilities for success in the internship.

  • Working knowledge of C programming, Python, Bash, and Linux development.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly.
  • Willingness to learn embedded development and diagnostic workflows.

Nice-to-have

  • Embedded development experience (course projects, internships, or personal projects).
  • Exposure to RTOS, device drivers, microcontrollers, or hardware peripherals (JTAG, I2C, SPI).
  • Basic understanding of build systems, continuous integration, and automated testing frameworks.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
