ASIC Digital Design Functional Safety Senior Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
ASIC Digital Design Functional Safety Senior Engineer
Role Summary
Lead functional safety activities for ASIC IP and SoC products with a focus on automotive applications. Integrate safety engineering into architecture, design, and verification to support customer certification and reduce late-stage rework.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting specifies 2–4 years of Functional Safety engineering experience; the role title indicates a senior-level responsibility and ownership of safety across IP and SoC lifecycles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include driving safety engineering across development phases, creating auditable safety work products, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and assessors.
- Drive functional safety activities from early architecture through verification and release for ASIC IP and SoC products.
- Develop and review safety requirements, Technical Safety Concepts, and compliance evidence in accordance with ISO 26262.
- Perform safety analyses (FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, Dependent Failure Analysis) and document mitigation plans and traceability.
- Define, implement, and evaluate safety mechanisms and diagnostic coverage targets at IP, subsystem, and SoC levels.
- Collaborate with Architecture, RTL Design, and Verification teams to embed safety into design and validation workflows.
- Engage with customers, external safety assessors, and cross-functional stakeholders to support audits and certification activities.
- Document safety analyses, maintain traceability matrices, and prepare evidence for internal reviews and external assessments.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for the role; items labeled "Nice-to-have" are desirable but not mandatory.
- Must-have: 2–4 years of Functional Safety engineering experience focused on automotive semiconductors, IP, or SoC development.
- Must-have: Strong working knowledge of ISO 26262 processes and hardware compliance requirements.
- Must-have: Proven experience developing and reviewing safety requirements and Technical Safety Concepts.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, and Dependent Failure Analysis methodologies.
- Must-have: Experience defining and assessing safety mechanisms, diagnostic coverage, and fault mitigation at IP or SoC level.
- Must-have: Familiarity with semiconductor product development and verification flows; ability to work with cross-functional teams and external assessors.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with automotive IPs, networking/communication IPs, or other safety-critical products.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of cybersecurity for automotive (ISO 21434) and protocols such as I3C, AMBA, Ethernet, UFS, UNIPRO.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
