Job Title

ASIC Design Verification Engineer, Digital Signal Processing

Role Summary

Work on verification for high-speed digital Physical Layer (PHY) and digital signal processing blocks used in Google's TPU and related hardware accelerators. The role focuses on building and executing verification strategies, reference models, and scalable simulation environments to ensure functional correctness and robustness under realistic channel conditions.

Experience Level

Senior β€” the posting specifies 8 years of experience in design verification focused on DSP, communications, or arithmetic logic blocks.

Responsibilities

Primary verification and modeling responsibilities include:

  • Define and execute verification strategies for high-speed PHY digital blocks.
  • Verify RTL against high-level architectural reference models using MATLAB, C++, or SystemC.
  • Assess stability, tracking, and convergence of adaptive equalization and timing recovery under channel impairments.
  • Model and verify the functional interface between Digital DSP blocks and the Analog Front End with Real Number Modeling or SystemVerilog-AMS.
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable UVM-based simulation environments, SystemVerilog Assertions, and functional coverage metrics.
  • Automate testbenches and verification workflows with scripting tools.
  • Collaborate with design and silicon bring-up teams to debug and qualify implementations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Approximately 8 years of design verification experience focused on DSP, communication systems, or arithmetic logic blocks.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog, UVM, SystemVerilog Assertions, and functional coverage methodologies.
  • Experience verifying PHY digital blocks and DSP algorithms.
  • Experience creating reference models and testbenches in MATLAB, C++, or SystemC.
  • Experience with Real Number Modeling or SystemVerilog-AMS for mixed-signal interfaces.
  • Scripting experience for automation using Python, Perl, or Makefile.
  • Strong understanding of adaptive equalization architectures and timing recovery loops.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (as stated). No mention of alternate degrees or explicit "equivalent experience" language in the source.
