Job Title

ASIC Design Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Join Waymo's Compute Team to develop and verify high-performance custom silicon for autonomous driving. The role focuses on architecting verification plans, building scalable testbenches and tools, and ensuring silicon meets functional and performance targets. This position follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to a Silicon Engineering Lead.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant ASIC verification experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning and executing verification for mission-critical ASICs and improving verification methodologies across the organization.

  • Translate hardware specifications into comprehensive, scalable verification plans.
  • Develop and maintain testbenches, reference models, and stimulus to validate functionality and performance.
  • Architect, extend, and standardize verification environments and reusable tools.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and verify third-party Verification IP (VIP).
  • Define and analyze functional and code coverage metrics to drive design readiness and closure.
  • Promote and establish verification best practices across teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, followed by preferred qualifications.

  • Must-have: 3+ years building and maintaining complex UVM/SystemVerilog testbenches.
  • Must-have: Experience with constrained-random stimulus, functional coverage, and SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA).
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of complex digital logic and ability to debug interactions across RTL, testbench, and environment layers.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in Python for automation, data analysis, and regression management.
  • Must-have: Clear verbal and written communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience from specification through post-silicon bring-up and validation.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with power-aware verification (UPF), formal methods, or hardware-software co-validation.
  • Nice-to-have: Domain experience with ML accelerators, NoCs, or high-bandwidth memory.
  • Nice-to-have: C/C++ experience for reference model development.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with PCIe Gen5/6, DDR5, or Ethernet interfaces.
  • Nice-to-have: Interest or experience using generative AI / LLMs to accelerate verification tasks.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
