ASIC Design Intern
Role Summary
Join the System on Chip (SoC) Design Team to contribute to controller IP for high-performance SSDs. The team covers micro-architecture, RTL design, timing closure and tapeout readiness for enterprise and AI data-center storage.
This internship is a full-time, 6-month position based in San Jose working on RTL design and cross-functional collaboration with verification, validation and firmware teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Intended for current students in undergraduate or graduate programs; this is a full-time, 40 hours/week internship.
Responsibilities
The intern will contribute to RTL and IP development and support cross-team integration and quality assurance.
- Develop RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) for IP modules from existing designs or new specifications.
- Create and maintain clear design documentation and specifications.
- Collaborate with Design Verification, Silicon Validation, and Firmware teams to ensure functionality and integration.
- Support timing-closure activities and contribute to tapeout readiness as directed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and logistical requirements for the internship.
- Proficiency in digital logic design and micro-architecture.
- RTL coding experience in Verilog and/or SystemVerilog.
- Ability to work onsite 5 days per week at the San Jose location for the full 6-month internship; available to start November/December 2026 or immediately.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience or coursework with protocols and verification methodologies (AMBA, PCIe, NAND, DDR).
- Scripting skills (Python, Perl, TCL) and Linux command-line experience.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted tools for generating synthesizable RTL.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Master’s or PhD candidates with prior relevant experience are preferred.
Compensation
Hourly pay: $35/hr - $45/hr.
