ASIC Design Engineer — Principal Manager
QualcommJob Title
ASIC Design Engineer — Principal Manager
Role Summary
Lead architecture and technical strategy for next-generation Ethernet switch ASICs. Own roadmap and design direction across switching and packet-processing subsystems and drive silicon delivery through cross-functional teams.
Manage and mentor senior technical leaders; align hardware, software and product teams on features, performance and delivery.
Experience Level
Senior — 10 to 15+ years of ASIC design or architecture experience, preferably with switching or merchant-silicon background.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture definition, design leadership, performance analysis and delivery accountability.
- Define architecture and roadmap for Ethernet switching and packet-processing subsystems.
- Lead design across forwarding engine, traffic management, scheduling and resource allocation.
- Drive cross-functional alignment with hardware, software and product teams on features and performance targets.
- Lead performance analysis, modeling and trade-off studies for switch architecture.
- Mentor senior technical leaders and influence organization-wide engineering direction.
- Ensure successful execution from architecture through silicon delivery.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and demonstrated experience.
- Deep expertise in ASIC development: logic design, RTL coding, verification, synthesis, timing closure and physical design flow.
- Deep knowledge of Ethernet switch architecture: forwarding pipelines (L2/L3, ACLs, tunneling), traffic management (QoS, scheduling, shaping), and high-performance packet processing and scaling strategies.
- Proven track record delivering complex SoCs and shipping silicon.
- Strong system-level debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, cross-functional influence and experience mentoring senior engineers.
- Fluent in Chinese and English (verbal and written); able to work under tight schedules.
- Nice-to-have: experience with merchant switching silicon vendors (Broadcom, Marvell, Realtek, MediaTek).
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering preferred. Minimum qualifications allow: Bachelor's in Science/Engineering with 8+ years relevant ASIC experience; Master's with 7+ years; or PhD with 6+ years in science, engineering, or related fields. Equivalent practical experience is considered.
