ASIC Customer Support Project Manager

Role Summary

Senior individual contributor responsible for end-to-end ownership of global ASIC customer technical support projects. Acts as the single point of contact for key customers and coordinates cross-functional engineering, EDA, foundry, and QA teams to ensure timely delivery of technical services.

Primary goals: resolve high-risk technical escalations, maintain customer relationships, standardize support processes, and support strategic account growth.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires extensive industry experience. The posting requests more than 10 years in the semiconductor industry with solid ASIC design or customer technical project management background.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include technical account ownership, escalation management, and process improvement.

  • Serve as primary project owner and liaison for key ASIC customers; manage lifecycle from demand confirmation through project closure.
  • Lead resolution of complex ASIC technical escalations across synthesis, placement & routing, timing signoff, power integrity, physical verification and low-power flows.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (backend engineering, EDA R&D, foundry interfaces, application engineering, QA) to prioritize and resolve critical issues.
  • Proactively identify project risks, produce mitigation plans, run regular risk reviews, and escalate major roadblocks.
  • Run regular technical syncs with global customers, report progress, and manage expectations to maintain long-term relationships.
  • Define and implement standardized project processes and KPIs (issue resolution cycle, on-time closure rate, customer satisfaction).
  • Document recurring problems and produce FAQs, operation specs and best-practice guides to reduce repeat workload.
  • Support pre-sales technical planning: evaluate workload, estimate resources, and support account expansion.

Requirements

Must-have technical and project-management skills. Education details are summarized separately below.

  • 10+ years semiconductor industry experience with ASIC design or customer technical project management.
  • Deep understanding of full ASIC implementation flow (netlist to GDSII) and familiarity with mainstream EDA tools and physical design challenges.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple parallel customer projects with strong milestone control and risk management.
  • Excellent cross-departmental coordination and stakeholder management; able to drive engineering teams under tight schedules.
  • Fluent written and spoken English for international customer communication.
  • Customer-focused, skilled in conflict management, resilient under pressure, and committed to end-to-end delivery.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and experience building standardized support processes.

Nice-to-have:

  • Background at EDA vendors, IP suppliers, design service companies, or leading foundries.
  • Hands-on ASIC backend physical design experience (P&R, timing closure, PV troubleshooting).
  • Experience with Data Center ASICs, AI accelerators, networking silicon, DPUs/XPUs, or advanced-node projects (7nm/5nm).
  • Familiarity with Tcl/Python scripting and data/statistics for technical analysis.

Education Requirements

Degree required: Bachelor's degree or above in Microelectronics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Master's or PhD are acceptable. The posting permits equivalent experience in lieu of degree with the following minimums: Bachelor's +6 years, Master's +5 years, or PhD +4 years of relevant Hardware Applications Engineering or Hardware Design experience.
