Architecture Engineer, Senior Staff - Hod HaSharon
QualcommJob Title
Architecture Engineer, Senior Staff
Role Summary
Define system and IP architectures, develop architectural models, and produce technical specifications for high-performance, low-power ASIC/SoC products. Work within the ASICS Engineering team on chip- to system-level architectures and hardware/software integration.
Experience Level
Senior. Expected experience: broadly 12+ years in IC system/VLSI design, with at least 3+ years in IC architecture and 3+ years using modeling tools.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Define and drive architectures across chip components, subsystems, and system-level workflows.
- Translate product requirements into architectural specifications, features, and HW/SW execution models for implementation teams.
- Develop architectural models and perform system analysis to evaluate performance, power, and scalability (modeling preferred in Python).
- Lead cross-functional technical decisions and trade-offs balancing functionality, performance, power, and implementation constraints.
- Author clear technical specifications, design documentation, and presentations to communicate architecture and implementation requirements.
- Collaborate with customers, vendors, IP providers, and internal teams; manage supplier and IP deliverables where required.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Strong foundation in hardware and chip design flows (ASIC/SoC).
- Knowledge of communication technologies and standards such as Ethernet, PCIe, UALink, OCP, UCIe.
- Proven track record in ASIC/SoC projects from architecture definition through to tape-out.
- System-level understanding of HW/SW co-design and integration.
- Modeling and system analysis capabilities; Python preferred.
- Excellent specification writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
- Practical experience with modeling tools and system-level evaluation (3+ years).
- Work experience in IC system design or VLSI (12+ years typical for role).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with large datacenter ASICs (e.g., Ethernet switches).
- Familiarity with Forward Error Correction (FEC) schemes and high-speed link architectures.
- Experience with SoC security and streaming security protocols (RoT, MACsec).
- Experience working in global, cross-functional teams and managing outsourced suppliers or IP integration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field with corresponding experience: Bachelor's +6+ years, Master's +5+ years, or PhD +4+ years in ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
