Job Title

Applied Physics and Electro-Optics Intern

Role Summary

Join the NVIDIA Advanced Research Group quantum optics team to support Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and related electro-optical lab activities. The role focuses on building, testing and characterizing optical setups and components to evaluate their use in future quantum-aware datacenter solutions.

Experience Level

Internship β€” intended for graduate students (MSc or PhD) currently enrolled and continuing their studies; the posting requests students with multiple years remaining until graduation.

Responsibilities

Primary hands-on responsibilities in the lab include:

  • Design, assemble and test QKD and other optical setups.
  • Build fiber-based electro-optical (EO) experimental setups.
  • Test and characterize EO components and photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
  • Draft laboratory measurement reports and document results.
  • Evaluate and adapt cutting-edge optical technology for practical applications.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with free-space or fiber optical setups and measurement instruments.
  • Practical understanding of electro-optical components and their operating principles.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Python or MATLAB.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate in a team.
  • Self-motivated, able to take initiative and work independently under supervision.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with quantum optics and QKD protocols.
  • Knowledge of optical detection methods and detectors (SPADs, coherent detection, etc.).
  • Laboratory experience with modulators, VOAs, polarization control, fiber coupling and RF probing.

Education Requirements

Enrollment in an MSc or PhD program in electro-optics, quantum optics, physics or a closely related field. Candidates should have at least 2–3 years remaining until graduation and be available to work at least a 50% position onsite at NVIDIA labs in Yokneam.
