Applied AI Engineer, Top Hardware Priorities
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Applied AI Engineer, Top Hardware Priorities
Role Summary
Build and deploy applied AI systems that accelerate hardware and system engineering workflows. You will work with hardware-adjacent teams (design, verification, simulation, firmware, performance, routing, and compute libraries) to turn manual processes into measurable, AI-assisted workflows that improve concrete engineering metrics.
This role is practical and collaborative: design candidate generation, validation, scoring, and human-in-the-loop loops; integrate agents with compilers, simulators, profilers, and benchmark harnesses; and deliver reproducible evaluations and dashboards.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify years of experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver production-quality applied AI workflows and tools that improve engineering productivity and measurable outcomes.
- Design and implement AI-assisted workflows for optimization, verification, debugging, simulation, and automation.
- Convert manual engineering tasks into structured pipelines with inputs, candidate generation, validation, scoring, logging, and reproducible comparisons.
- Define success metrics with domain owners: correctness, performance, resource use, latency, coverage, or engineer time saved.
- Integrate AI agents and tooling with compilers, simulators, formal checks, profilers, benchmark harnesses, ticket systems, and knowledge sources.
- Build human-in-the-loop processes for annotation, expert judgment, and subjective triage.
- Improve model and agent performance via prompts, tool interfaces, retrieval, evaluation datasets, graders, and structured feedback.
- Collaborate with research and infrastructure teams to generalize patterns into reusable platforms, harnesses, dashboards, and data assets.
- Communicate progress through measurable outcomes, demos, concise technical writeups, and stakeholder updates.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and abilities for day-one impact, followed by concise nice-to-have items.
- Must-have: Strong software engineering in Python and at least one systems language (C++, C, HIP, CUDA, or Rust).
- Experience building applied AI/ML, agentic, automation, or developer tooling for technical users.
- Ability to work with complex engineering tools, logs, tests, benchmark harnesses, and validation workflows.
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis across software systems, AI workflows, or hardware-adjacent tooling.
- Proven collaboration and clear technical communication with domain experts, engineering leads, research teams, and stakeholders.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with LLM agents, tool use, retrieval, LLM-as-judge workflows, RL, or post-training methods; experience designing evaluation datasets, graders, dashboards, or experiment tracking systems.
- Experience working with internal engineering customers, forward-deployed teams, or cross-functional product engineering programs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Master's degree preferred; PhD is a plus for candidates with relevant AI, systems, EDA, or hardware/software co-design experience.
