Job Title
Applications Engineering, Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Senior applications engineering role focused on design-for-test (DFT) methodology and customer-facing DFT implementation for large-scale SoC designs at advanced process nodes. The role works directly with customer design teams in Tokyo and with global engineering and vendor partners to deliver production-quality test flows and silicon-ready pattern sets.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff). Preferred experience: 3β15 years of hands-on DFT and test flow implementation on complex SoC designs.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership for DFT deployment and customer engagements. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and refine DFT methodologies for large SoCs (scan, MBIST, scan compression, ATPG) at advanced nodes.
- Execute top-level and block-level DFT implementation from specification through pattern delivery, including MBIST insertion, boundary scan, ATPG, and pattern simulation.
- Debug DFT circuitry, verify block interfaces, and resolve simulation and timing issues during integration and test validation.
- Analyze complex technical problems in real time and deliver practical, deployable solutions within customer schedules and constraints.
- Lead technical engagements with external vendors and coordinate work across global engineering teams.
- Script and automate DFT flows using Tcl and shell to improve efficiency and repeatability.
- Provide technical guidance and methodology recommendations directly to customers.
Requirements
Core qualifications and skills; must-haves are listed first, followed by desirable items.
-
Must-have: 3β15 years of hands-on DFT experience and test-flow implementation on large, complex SoC designs.
-
Must-have: Deep knowledge of DFT methodologies including JTAG, ATPG, scan compression, and MBIST and how they interact in real designs.
-
Must-have: Strong scripting and automation skills in Tcl and shell for building and customizing DFT flows.
-
Must-have: Native-level Japanese and professional proficiency in English for technical discussions and documentation.
-
Must-have: Demonstrated experience working with external partners, vendors, or global engineering teams on complex technical projects.
-
Desirable: Experience with Synopsys DFT tools such as TestMAX DFT and TestMAX SMS.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
