Applications Engineering, Staff Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Applications Engineering, Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Senior technical role on the Test Applications Engineering team (Technical Sales Group). Deliver and validate Design-for-Test (DFT) solutions for digital IC customers, provide hands-on enablement during silicon bring-up and tape-out readiness, and influence product direction by turning customer engagements into productized capabilities.
The role includes field support, design reviews, diagnostics, and deploying agentic AI/LLM-assisted workflows to accelerate DFT setup and debug at customer sites.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff Engineer). Guidance: BSc + 7+ years or MSc + 5+ years of relevant experience as indicated in the source posting.
Responsibilities
Primary technical and customer-facing responsibilities.
- Provide DFT expertise during design planning, budgeting, and implementation.
- Perform test methodology design-rule checks during RTL development.
- Implement and validate DFT techniques: scan compression, core wrapping, logic and memory BIST.
- Generate and validate ATPG patterns, including advanced fault models.
- Participate in customer design and flow reviews to ensure integration and tape-out readiness.
- Analyze and debug diagnostics and silicon bring-up issues to resolution.
- Deploy and tune agentic AI flows for DFT (scan insertion, ATPG setup, DRC triage, diagnostics) at customer sites and feed findings into the product roadmap.
- Support product demonstrations and evaluations to win new customers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; education details are listed separately below.
- Experience with RTL coding, DFT insertion, scan synthesis, ATPG, and MBIST architecture planning.
- Strong practical knowledge of pattern generation and silicon bring-up processes.
- Familiarity with test-related protocols such as IEEE 1149.x, IEEE 1500, and IEEE 1687.
- Proven problem-solving and debugging skills for complex design and test issues.
- Practical fluency with LLM-based coding assistants and agentic tools integrated into engineering workflows.
- Customer-facing experience: technical support, training, and conducting design/flow reviews.
- Ability to translate field findings into product requirements and to collaborate with solution architects.
Education Requirements
BSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 7+ years' relevant experience, or MSc with 5+ years' relevant experience. Equivalent practical experience in these technical areas is acceptable where indicated.
