Applications Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Work in the MPS Switzerland office in Tolochenaz as part of a small engineering team to design and test sensor characterization setups, firmware, and measurement software. The role is hands-on and combines electronics, firmware, software, and prototyping tasks.

This internship provides practical experience across electronic design, measurement automation, data analysis, and mechanical CAD.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship suitable for current students or recent graduates; no specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building test setups, developing firmware and software for measurements, and supporting measurement campaigns and demos.

• Design and build setups for characterizing angle, 3D, and current sensors.
• Design printed circuit boards: schematics, layout, and assembly.
• Develop firmware for microcontrollers (C, C++).
• Develop graphical user interfaces and measurement software (Python, C++, LabVIEW).
• Automate measurements and manage measurement campaigns.
• Process measurement data and prepare reports (Matlab, Python).
• Create demos for customers and marketing; provide customer support.
• Participate in mechanical CAD design and workshop prototyping as needed.

Requirements

Must-have skills and attributes:

• Passionate about technology and eager to learn.
• Familiarity with electronic design.
• Firmware development experience in C/C++.
• Data processing experience with Matlab and Python (NumPy).
• Good communication skills; French or English speaker and able to write in English.
• Effective team player.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with Python application development, C++, LabVIEW, Qt/PySide2, matplotlib, plotly, or Flask.
• Experience with schematic and PCB tools (Altium or Cadence).
• Mechanical CAD experience (SolidWorks) and mechanical workshop skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering (EPF or HES) is specified.
