SynopsysJob Title
Applications Engineer, Sr. Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Provide technical leadership for customer adoption and deployment of Fusion Compiler, focusing on place-and-route, timing closure, and methodology enablement for advanced-node designs. Work directly with customer implementation teams and internal product engineering to diagnose issues, deliver training, and drive product improvements.
Role is customer-facing and combines hands-on debug, technical consulting, and methodology development to improve customers' PPA and tapeout success rates.
Experience Level
Senior-level (title indicates senior role). No explicit years-of-experience requirement stated.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include direct technical support, methodology deployment, and product-feedback activities.
- Diagnose complex place-and-route issues and reproduce problems in-house to drive resolution with engineering teams.
- Lead technical engagements with advanced-node customers and define deployment strategies aligned with design goals.
- Design and deliver training sessions, workshops, and hands-on enablement for customer engineering teams.
- Act as the technical voice of the customer: translate field feedback into feature requests, bug reports, and roadmap input.
- Collaborate with account teams during pre-sales and post-deployment to shape technical solutions and demonstrate measurable PPA and turnaround improvements.
- Debug and optimize customer flows across design planning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and timing closure.
- Build and maintain technical relationships with customer architects and implementation leads; act as a primary escalation resource.
Requirements
Must-have skills and technical experience for immediate contribution.
- Deep expertise in place-and-route methodologies: floorplanning, placement optimization, clock tree synthesis, routing, and timing closure.
- Proven production or customer-facing experience with Synopsys Fusion Compiler.
- Strong working knowledge of static timing analysis (STA) and low-power design flows, including multi-voltage domains and power gating.
- Proficiency in TCL scripting for automation, flow customization, and debug.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites, typically 20β30%.
- Nice-to-have: experience with advanced node designs (7nm and below).
