Job Title

Applications Engineer, Senior Staff

Role Summary

Senior technical customer-facing engineer responsible for architecting and validating IP integration solutions for SoC and ASIC customers. Works with sales, product R&D, and customer engineering teams to drive IP selection, evaluation, and successful integration into customer design flows.

Experience Level

Senior level. The role expects experienced candidates (see Education Requirements for specific years-of-experience guidance).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical pre-sales, customer evaluations, and cross-team coordination.

  • Partner with sales to analyze customer SoC/ASIC requirements and propose IP solutions that meet power, performance, area, and schedule constraints.
  • Lead technical evaluations and coordinate delivery of models, testbenches, documentation, and engineering support from product R&D.
  • Conduct design reviews and technical presentations covering RTL, timing, physical design, and verification integration.
  • Troubleshoot complex integration issues across RTL, synthesis, static timing analysis, and mixed-signal interfaces.
  • Act as customer advocate to relay integration issues and feature requests to IP product teams.
  • Maintain deep technical relationships with customer architects, design leads, and verification engineers.
  • Travel approximately 15–30% to customer sites, sales offices, and engineering centers within Japan and occasionally internationally.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Strong working knowledge of SoC architectures and system-level design practices for at least one market segment (mobile, storage, automotive, data center, networking, or IoT) focused on IP integration.
  • Hands-on RTL design and verification experience with Verilog or SystemVerilog, including testbench creation and simulation.
  • Solid understanding of synthesis, static timing analysis, and physical design flows sufficient to discuss timing closure and implementation tradeoffs.
  • Familiarity with analog and mixed-signal design and verification workflows and basic package/PCB design concepts.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex tradeoffs to senior architects and coordinate across R&D, sales, and customer teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 15–30% for customer and company meetings.
  • Nice-to-have: prior experience selecting, using, designing, or supporting IP in a customer-facing applications engineering role.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with interface protocols such as USB, PCIe, CXL, DDR, MIPI, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet, or AMBA.

Education Requirements

Either a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience (as stated by the employer).
