Job Title

Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Performance Computing Power Application Engineering team to support AI and cloud infrastructure customers. The role works cross-functionally with marketing, IC design, firmware, and systems engineering to validate and deliver power-management solutions.

Primary focus: system-level validation of digital multiphase controllers and power stages, lab evaluation of control algorithms, and development of evaluation boards and technical collateral.

Experience Level

Entry-level / New College Graduate. Candidates who hold an MS (non-thesis) plus 2 years of equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include system validation, lab development, modeling, and documentation.

  • Validate new digital multiphase controllers and Smart Power Stages with senior applications, design, and test engineers to assess system-level performance.
  • Evaluate and prototype control algorithms in the lab using FPGA, microcontrollers, and custom analog front ends.
  • Perform behavioral modeling of DC–DC converters and IC blocks (e.g., using SIMPLIS and/or MATLAB) to support design teams.
  • Design and build evaluation boards (EVBs): component selection, PCB layout, and thermal design.
  • Develop technical collateral: datasheets, performance reports, and application notes for customer engagement.
  • Automate and execute lab test procedures and measurements to characterize converter and controller performance.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.

Must-have:

  • Proven experience with DC–DC converters and multiphase buck converters.
  • Solid understanding of control loop theory and its application in power converters.
  • Knowledge of magnetics and component selection for power designs.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment (network analyzers, oscilloscopes, waveform generators) and test automation.
  • Ability to develop EVBs including layout and thermal considerations.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with embedded programming and synthesizing Verilog for FPGA.
  • Familiarity with behavioral modeling tools such as SIMPLIS and MATLAB.
  • Coursework or experience in digital systems and mixed-signal integrated circuits.

Education Requirements

New College Graduate (NCG) with an MS or Ph.D., preferably with thesis/dissertation work in power management/power electronics, is required. An MS non-thesis plus 2 years of equivalent industry experience will be considered. Coursework in digital systems, Verilog, and mixed-signal ICs is desirable.
