Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead technical efforts for custom silicon development from architecture through silicon bring-up. Work across hardware, software, systems, and external partners to deliver production-ready ASICs and shape the silicon roadmap.

Experience Level

Senior — requires extensive experience (10+ years) in hardware and ASIC design.

Responsibilities

Deliver and oversee end-to-end ASIC projects and mentor a small engineering team.

• Define ASIC development methodology across architecture, RTL, verification, implementation, and tape-out.
• Lead microarchitecture, RTL development, integration, validation, and silicon bring-up.
• Translate system and product requirements into silicon designs and trade-offs (performance, power, area, cost, schedule).
• Coordinate with external design, fabrication, and manufacturing partners to ensure successful execution.
• Manage subsystem roadmaps and delivery schedules for commercial and advanced technology programs.
• Support FPGA-based development and migration from FPGA prototypes to production ASICs.
• Mentor and grow ASIC engineering staff; provide technical leadership.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required; items labeled "Nice-to-have" are desirable but not mandatory.

• Must-have: 10+ years of hardware design experience with multiple full ASIC development cycles through tape-out and silicon validation.
• Must-have: Proven experience transitioning FPGA designs into ASIC implementations.
• Must-have: Strong RTL design expertise, ideally with SystemVerilog.
• Must-have: Experience implementing complex DSP functions in hardware and strong digital system design skills.
• Must-have: Knowledge of ASIC development flows, semiconductor process technologies, fabrication partners, and EDA toolchains.
• Must-have: Experience with industry-standard tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, or Siemens EDA.
• Must-have: Strong understanding of FPGA architectures and microprocessor subsystems.
• Nice-to-have: Mixed-signal design experience.

Education Requirements

MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (the posting specifies a Master’s or PhD degree in EE or related fields).
