Application Engineering Staff Engineer

Role Summary

Senior technical role on Synopsys' Silicon Design & Verification team providing expert application engineering for RTL-to-GDS implementation flows. The role focuses on customer-facing technical support, flow enablement, methodology deployment, and collaboration with R&D to resolve synthesis and place-and-route issues for flagship projects.

This position contributes to customer success on advanced-node designs and improves tool adoption, performance, and quality of results.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience: B.Tech + 6+ years or M.Tech + 4+ years in physical implementation and RTL-to-GDS flows; equivalent practical experience considered.

Responsibilities

Provide expert application engineering and customer-facing technical support across implementation flows.

• Drive global customer adoption of Synopsys implementation products and RTL-to-GDS flows.
• Deliver hands-on debugging, on-site support, and solutions for premium customer projects.
• Participate in benchmarks, deployments, and flow enablement campaigns to improve usability and adoption.
• Advocate for customer needs to product development and influence product roadmaps.
• Create and maintain technical knowledge-base articles and training materials.
• Collaborate with R&D to translate customer challenges into product and methodology improvements.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required to perform the role.

Must-have

• Deep expertise in physical implementation methodologies and RTL-to-GDS flows.
• Proven experience with Synopsys implementation tools (e.g., Fusion Compiler, ICC-II, or equivalent).
• Proficiency in scripting: Tcl, Perl, and Unix shell.
• Experience with static timing analysis (STA), low-power flows, and design planning.
• Track record of multiple chip tape-outs, preferably at 7nm or below across various foundries.
• Strong verbal and written communication and prior customer-facing experience.

Nice-to-have

• Knowledge of Python.
• Experience rolling out methodologies, conducting customer trainings, and producing technical publications.

Education Requirements

B.Tech (or equivalent) with a minimum of 6+ years' relevant experience, or M.Tech (or equivalent) with a minimum of 4+ years' relevant experience. The posting also accepts equivalent practical experience in lieu of a listed degree.
