Application Engineering Manager (Physical Design)
Role Summary
Lead a team of Physical Design Application Engineers supporting Synopsys implementation solutions for strategic semiconductor customers. Ensure technical excellence, successful deployments, strong customer relationships, and team development.
Work closely with customers, sales, product management, and R&D to define technical strategies, resolve escalations, and drive adoption of next-generation physical design technologies.
Experience Level
Senior - minimum 8+ years in ASIC Physical Design / Design Implementation or Application Engineering, with at least 2+ years of leadership or technical management experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, customer engagement, team management, and operational execution.
- Lead and manage a team of Physical Design Application Engineers supporting customer deployments and escalations.
- Drive technical campaigns, methodology development, and adoption of new physical-design technologies.
- Partner with customers, sales, product management, and R&D to define solutions and address critical requirements.
- Manage and resolve customer escalations to achieve successful business outcomes.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members; build a pipeline of technical talent and future leaders.
- Plan resources, prioritize work, and maintain service quality and performance metrics.
- Contribute to long-term customer engagement strategies and competitive positioning.
Requirements
Must-have:
- 8+ years of experience in ASIC Physical Design, Design Implementation, or Application Engineering.
- 2+ years of leadership, team management, or technical leadership experience.
- Proven expertise in floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, timing closure, signoff, and PPA optimization.
- Practical experience with Synopsys Physical Design tools such as Fusion Compiler, ICC2, PrimeTime, StarRC, and IC Validator.
- Experience supporting advanced technology nodes and complex SoC implementation projects.
- Strong customer engagement, escalation management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop engineering staff.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with AI-driven physical-design technologies and methodology automation.
