Application Engineering Manager (Physical Design)
Role Summary
Manage a team of Physical Design Application Engineers delivering implementation solutions and customer support for complex SoC designs. The role focuses on technical leadership, customer engagement, and driving successful deployments of physical design technologies.
Work closely with customers, sales, product management, and R&D to define technical strategy, resolve escalations, and increase adoption of next-generation Physical Design flows.
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical background: 8+ years in ASIC Physical Design or Application Engineering, with at least 2 years in people or technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Lead technical and team activities to ensure customer success and operational execution.
- Lead and manage a team of Physical Design application engineers supporting strategic semiconductor customers.
- Ensure high-quality support, successful deployments, and strong customer relationships.
- Drive technical campaigns, manage customer escalations, and define methodology improvements.
- Collaborate with sales, product management, and R&D to address critical customer requirements and shape product direction.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members; build a pipeline of technical talent and future leaders.
- Plan resources, prioritize work, and manage service quality and performance execution.
- Contribute to business strategy to expand customer engagement and accelerate technology adoption.
Requirements

- Must-have: 8+ years in ASIC Physical Design, design implementation, or application engineering.
- Must-have: 2+ years of leadership or technical management experience.
- Must-have: Strong expertise in implementation methodologies: floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, timing closure, signoff, and PPA optimization.
- Must-have: Experience supporting advanced process nodes and complex SoC implementation projects.
- Must-have: Proven ability to lead customer engagements, manage escalations, and drive business outcomes.
- Must-have: Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills; proven people coaching and talent development capability.
- Nice-to-have: Deep familiarity with Synopsys physical design tools such as Fusion Compiler, ICC2, PrimeTime, StarRC, and IC Validator, and exposure to AI-driven EDA technologies.
