Application Engineer (Tessent)

Role Summary

Provide technical and sales support for the Tessent family of DFT/test tools to customers in Japan. Work with customers to propose, implement, and validate test and debug solutions for IC/SoC designs and collaborate with the U.S. development team to convey customer requirements and feedback.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities center on customer-facing technical engagement, solution delivery, and cross-team collaboration.

  • Provide sales engineering and technical support for Tessent DFT and test products.
  • Assess customer needs and propose, implement, and demonstrate test/debug solutions.
  • Perform on-site customer visits across Japan and occasional remote support.
  • Collect and communicate customer feedback and requirements to the U.S. product development team.
  • Deliver technical presentations, proofs-of-concept, and training to customers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, language abilities, and practical experience needed to perform the role. Nice-to-have items are listed separately.

  • Must-have: Basic knowledge of DFT concepts and practices, including Scan implementation, ATPG/fault simulation, Memory BIST, Logic BIST, and JTAG (IEEE 1149.1).
  • Knowledge of IC/ASIC/SoC test technologies.
  • Practical scripting experience using TCL and shell scripts.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand technical documents in English; basic conversational English for daily communication.
  • Japanese language proficiency at JLPT N1 level.
  • Experience in customer-facing technical support or pre-sales (technical sales) roles is preferred.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Tessent or competing tools (e.g., Synopsys TestMAX, Cadence Modus); automotive IC design/verification experience and familiarity with ISO 26262 or IEC-Q100; static timing analysis, logical equivalence checks, IC layout knowledge; analog/mixed-signal design/verification experience; software development experience.

Education Requirements

University (bachelor's) degree or higher is preferred. Junior college/technical college graduates are acceptable; vocational school and high school graduates are not. No explicit equivalent-experience clause provided.
