Application Engineer Intern, MS — Summer 2027

Role Summary

Join Marvell's Optical DSP application engineering group to support Optical PAM4 DSP products used in high-speed optical interconnects for cloud data centers and carrier networks. The role focuses on resolving customer technical issues, validating system performance, and enabling next-generation AI and datacenter applications.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current graduate students (intern role designed for a Master's student).

Responsibilities

The intern will work with customers and internal teams to diagnose, reproduce, and resolve technical issues and to validate product performance.

  • Provide technical support for Optical PAM4 DSP products and own customer issues through resolution.
  • Act as the interface between customers and Marvell engineering, communicating technical findings and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with field application engineers, line managers, marketing, and engineering teams.
  • Perform hands-on lab work, debugging, test, and data collection to reproduce and resolve issues.
  • Document test results, troubleshooting steps, and recommended fixes or workarounds.
  • Comply with export-control and access requirements for regulated technology.

Requirements

Core technical skills and work-readiness for an applications engineering internship.

  • Must-have: Basic proficiency in C and Python.
  • Must-have: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must-have: Ability to work in a lab environment, follow test procedures, and perform systematic troubleshooting.
  • Must-have: Eligibility to access export-controlled technology as required by law.
  • Nice-to-have: Understanding of digital signal processing (DSP), analog circuits, and system hardware.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior hands-on lab experience and practical debugging/problem-solving skills.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related technical field; expected graduation between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028. (Intern PhD candidates may have separate compensation arrangements.)
