Job Title

Application Engineer - FPGA

Role Summary

Technical application engineer supporting customers using Altera (Intel) FPGAs. Work with field engineering, sales, suppliers, and customers to guide FPGA design, implementation, and optimization across device, IP, and system levels.

Primary focus: solve complex FPGA design problems, enable successful customer designs, and support new product introductions with benchmarks and reference designs.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically requires 6+ years of hands-on FPGA design or applications engineering experience with Altera (Intel) devices and toolchains.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include technical support, customer design review, and collaboration across internal and supplier teams.

  • Provide expert technical support for Altera (Intel) FPGA customer requests and design challenges.
  • Interface with Field Application Engineers (FAEs), field sales, and customers to coordinate technical follow-up.
  • Support RTL design, custom IP development, device/platform migration, timing closure, and system-level optimization.
  • Review customer RTL and architecture; give feedback aligned with Altera FPGA best practices.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware engineers on multi-disciplinary customer projects.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by developing benchmarks, reference designs, demos, and proof points.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and personal attributes for success in this role.

  • 6+ years of hands-on FPGA design or applications engineering experience, focused on Altera (Intel) devices and toolchains.
  • Proven experience with RTL design, simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, and debugging.
  • Experience using industry-standard FPGA development environments and toolchains for Intel/Altera devices.
  • Hands-on experience with lab and measurement equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power measurement techniques).
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; customer-focused and solution-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a global team; proactive and self-motivated.
  • Acts as a technical resource and mentor; able to solve complex technical problems with autonomy.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
