Application Engineer Architect — Custom IC Design and Implementation
Role Summary
Customer-facing application engineering role supporting Custom IC design and implementation. The role helps customers solve complex simulation, layout, and integration problems using Cadence tools, and partners with R&D, product engineering, and sales to drive customer success and product adoption.
Experience Level
Senior — requires approximately 10+ years of relevant industry experience (posting indicates 10–12+ years).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical consulting, issue resolution, and driving adoption of Cadence solutions for custom IC design and implementation.
- Work directly with customer design teams to understand and resolve custom IC design, simulation, and layout challenges.
- Recommend and guide methodologies and flows to improve productivity and design quality.
- Diagnose and resolve critical tool issues, collaborating with product development and peer AEs as needed.
- Support and optimize customer design, simulation, and layout flows.
- Deliver technical presentations, training, and product demonstrations; develop customized materials for evaluations.
- Support technical evaluations and benchmarks to validate Cadence solutions.
- Collaborate with sales teams to identify opportunities and support sales strategies.
- Capture and communicate customer requirements and feedback to engineering and marketing teams.
- Help customers adopt system-level solutions, including heterogeneous integration and electromagnetic/thermal analysis.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and work capabilities.
- 10–12+ years hands-on experience with simulation and/or layout tools for Custom IC design.
- Practical experience with analog, mixed-signal, or RF design or layout is strongly preferred.
- Experience with electromagnetic solvers or EM analysis for custom ICs and advanced packaging is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, written and verbal communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel as required and to visit customer sites.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive to customer sites when needed.
- Open to continuous technical learning and professional development.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical work experience.
Additional Information
Salary guideline for California: $157,500 to $292,500 annual. Eligible candidates may also receive incentive compensation (bonus, equity) and benefits. Cadence is an equal opportunity employer.
