Role Summary

As an Applications Engineer based in Ottawa, you will configure and optimize Renesas timing devices (clock generators, clock buffers and multiplexers) for industrial, automotive, consumer and communications markets. The role focuses on improving analog/digital PLL performance and signal integrity through lab characterization, measurement automation and cross-functional collaboration.

This is a 100% onsite role; local candidates preferred.

Experience Level

Entry-level — BS with up to 2 years' experience or MS with 0 years' experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Characterize and optimize timing devices for performance, jitter and signal integrity, with emphasis on PLL tuning.
• Perform hands-on lab measurements and hardware debugging to validate device configurations.
• Develop and maintain test automation and custom scripts (Python preferred) for measurement and analysis.
• Analyze frequency-domain data (Bode plots, FFTs, spectrum analysis) and translate results into design/test recommendations.
• Collaborate with system architects, validation engineers and cross-functional teams to meet performance targets.
• Document test procedures, results and recommended device settings.

Requirements

Must-have skills and traits:

• Coursework or practical knowledge in circuit analysis.
• Good understanding of frequency-domain signal analysis (Bode plots, FFTs, spectrum analysis).
• Experience with scripting languages; Python preferred.
• Flexible, self-motivated, curious, and detail-oriented.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and function generators.
• Knowledge of PLL architecture and closed-loop control systems.
• Understanding of transmission line effects and termination schemes (CMOS, LVPECL, LVDS).
• Soldering and rework experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (BSE/BS) or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar technical field. The posting specifies entry-level hiring: BS with up to 2 years' experience or MS with 0 years' experience.
