Job Title
Analog/RF IC Layout Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement full-custom transistor-level layouts for analog and RF integrated circuits (BiCMOS, CMOS, bipolar). Support ASIC/MMIC designers from cell-level layout through full-chip assembly and sign-off, ensuring manufacturability and matching requirements are met.
Work within a cross-functional team to complete DRC/LVS verifications and maintain layout tool and version-control workflows.
Experience Level
Senior β 7+ years of relevant experience in custom analog/RF IC layout.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Produce transistor-level layout views from schematics, including cell-level and full-chip assembly.
- Perform DRC, LVS, and Layout XL compliance checks and complete chip-level sign-off verifications.
- Place device primitives following best practices for thermal performance and device matching.
- Support floorplanning and custom layout tasks for analog and RF circuits.
- Coordinate layout activities with IC designers, verification engineers, and contractors; solicit feedback on critical circuit nodes and matching.
- Identify and mitigate electro-migration and IR drop issues in layout power networks.
- Manage multiple cell designs in a dynamic project environment and maintain version-control of layout databases.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills:
-
Must-have: 7+ years of custom analog IC layout experience (full-custom layout for BiCMOS/CMOS/bipolar processes).
-
Must-have: 5+ years using Cadence Virtuoso Layout XL.
-
Must-have: Experience with DRC and LVS flows (Mentor Calibre or equivalent) and layout sign-off practices.
-
Must-have: Familiarity with analog design in modern sub-micron BiCMOS (130 nm and smaller) and device-matching techniques.
-
Must-have: Experience with version-control systems for IC design databases (e.g., SVN, Cliosoft/SOS).
-
Must-have: Strong teamwork and communication skills; ability to coordinate across engineering teams.
-
Nice-to-have: Layout experience for high-frequency (20+ GHz) bipolar signal-path ICs.
-
Nice-to-have: SKILL scripting, OCEAN experience, and basic Linux proficiency.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (or a related technical field), or equivalent practical experience.
