Analog Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer, Staff — Data Converters (ADC/DAC)
QualcommJob Title
Analog Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer, Staff — Data Converters (ADC/DAC)
Role Summary
Staff analogue/mixed-signal IC design engineer in the Analogue/RF group based in Cambridge, UK. Responsible for designing data converters (ADCs/DACs) and general analogue circuits for IoT radio transceivers, with an emphasis on low-power designs.
Accountable for the full design flow from architecture and specification through layout guidance, characterization and delivery to production, while collaborating with layout engineers and system/radio teams.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff) level. Ideally 5+ years of industrial analogue/RF IC design experience for a Staff role; minimum experience expectations vary by degree and are summarized in Education Requirements.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and verify ADCs, DACs and associated analogue circuits for radio transceivers targeting IoT products.
- Define architecture and specifications, develop circuit implementations, and take designs through to tape-out and production.
- Develop test-level interfaces and verification models; perform cell and block characterization after fabrication.
- Work closely with layout engineers to define floorplans and optimize layouts for performance and power.
- Collaborate with radio/system teams to derive system requirements and ensure designs meet system-level goals.
- Support lab bring-up and measurements using spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes and signal generators.
Requirements
Core technical requirements and desirable skills.
- Must-have: Proven analogue/RF IC design experience with demonstrable ADC/DAC work and strong analogue circuit fundamentals; competence with Cadence design and verification toolflow; proven ability to deliver designs with minimal supervision.
- Must-have: Experience taking designs from specification through characterization and production; ability to collaborate across disciplines to meet deadlines.
- Must-have: Familiarity with laboratory measurement equipment and test methodologies for analogue/RF circuits.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with PLLs, VCOs, PAs, LNAs, mixers, filters or crystal oscillators.
- Nice-to-have: Working knowledge of Verilog-AMS, MATLAB and Python for modelling and verification.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with wireless standards such as WLAN, Bluetooth or LTE and their system requirements.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications stated: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or related field with 4+ years relevant ASIC experience; OR Master's degree with 3+ years; OR PhD with 2+ years. The posting also notes applications from candidates with equivalent practical experience will be considered and the role may be open to recent PhD graduates depending on specialization.
