Job Title
Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Member of a mixed-signal IC design team developing high-speed, high-accuracy analog circuits for optical transceivers. Work includes architecture, circuit design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep-submicron CMOS ICs for telecom and data center applications.
Role is hybrid (three days per week) based in the San Jose, CA office and involves cross-functional collaboration with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical experience guidance per posting: BSc +8 years, MSc +6 years, PhD +3 years.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include delivering complex analog/mixed-signal blocks from concept through production and supporting system integration.
- Architect, design, simulate, lay out, and characterize high-speed AMS circuits and blocks.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips; define deliverables and schedules.
- Mentor and review work of other engineers; participate in peer reviews and design methodology improvements.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity targets.
- Develop laboratory validation plans and test setups for silicon bring-up and qualification.
Requirements
Key technical requirements and desirable skills.
-
Must-have: Proven experience designing, simulating, and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (SERDES, data converters), system link modeling, high-performance output drivers, PLLs, clock distribution, op amps/programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
-
Must-have: Hands-on analog/mixed-signal design using industry-standard tools (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX) and mixed-signal simulation flows.
-
Must-have: Experience with layout considerations for high-frequency designs including floorplanning, signal routing, and passive/component placement.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with FinFET/GAA technologies and high-frequency layout/EM considerations (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
-
Nice-to-have: Design-for-manufacturability experience: PVT characterization, electromigration, self-heating, IR drop analysis, and ESD practices.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with layout verification tools (Calibre), EMX, AMS simulation, Matlab, and lab validation/testbench construction.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications stated: Bachelor's degree + 8 years related experience, or Master's degree + 6 years related experience, or PhD + 3 years related experience.
