Job Title

Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Member of Acacia's Mixed Signal Design team responsible for architecting, designing, laying out, measuring and productizing ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog/mixed-signal circuits for high-speed optical transceivers.

Work in a small IC design group and collaborate with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to meet signal and power integrity, timing, and manufacturability targets.

Experience Level

Senior level. The role requires substantial prior experience; see Education Requirements for the specific degree-plus-experience combinations (examples: Bachelors + 8 years, Masters + 6 years, PhD + 3 years).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include ownership of large mixed-signal blocks and delivery through tapeout and production.

  • Architect, design, simulate, and layout high-speed analog/mixed-signal blocks for optical transceivers.
  • Lead design efforts for large blocks, set technical direction, track deliverables and drive to production.
  • Mentor junior engineers and participate in peer reviews to ensure robust design methodology.
  • Collaborate with package, hardware and digital teams to meet signal, timing, and power integrity specifications.
  • Develop lab validation plans and coordinate measurements to verify performance over PVT and other conditions.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and key skills.

Must-have
  • Proven experience in design, simulation and measurement of high-speed ICs in at least three of these areas: high-speed serial links (serdes, serializers/deserializers, data converters), system link modeling, high-performance output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock distribution/propagation, op amps/programmable gain amplifiers, or equalization techniques.
  • Experience developing high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits and delivering silicon in ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS processes.
  • Ability to own large blocks, lead designs, perform peer review, and mentor team members.
Nice-to-have
  • Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
  • Experience with FinFET or GAA technologies and high-frequency layout (floorplanning, routing, passives).
  • Design-for-manufacturability experience: characterization over PVT, electromigration, self-heating, IR drop analysis.
  • Laboratory validation experience including ESD practices and building test setups.
  • Familiarity with design and simulation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/SpectreX, Calibre, EMX, AMS mixed-signal flow, and MATLAB.

Education Requirements

Minimum combinations specified by the employer: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of related experience, Master's degree plus 6 years of related experience, or PhD plus 3 years of related experience.
