Job Title

Analog/mixed-signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Member of the Acacia mixed-signal IC design team developing high-speed analog and mixed-signal CMOS designs for optical transceivers (100G–1.6T+). Work includes architecture, circuit design, layout, validation and productization of ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS blocks.

This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA (three days per week on-site) collaborating with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. See Education Requirements for degree and experience combinations required for this role.

Responsibilities

Design, deliver and transition complex mixed-signal IC blocks for high-speed optical transceivers.

  • Architect, simulate, design and layout high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits and blocks.
  • Lead design efforts for large blocks, mentor junior engineers and track deliverables.
  • Perform design reviews and enforce solid design methodology from concept through production.
  • Collaborate with packaging, hardware and system teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
  • Support lab characterization and product validation activities in partnership with test engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience.

  • Experience in design, simulation and measurement of high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers and data converters, system link modeling, high-performance output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock distribution, op amps/programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
  • Practical experience with high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuit development and tapeout flow.
  • Proven ability to lead a design block, perform peer reviews, and deliver to schedule and quality targets.
  • Effective cross-functional communication with digital, packaging and system engineering groups.
  • Hands-on measurement and debug experience for high-speed circuits (preferred but strongly recommended).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable).
  • Experience with FinFET and GAA process technologies.
  • High-frequency layout and floorplanning experience, including routing, passives and transmission lines.
  • Design-for-manufacturability skills: PVT characterization, electromigration, self-heating and IR-drop analysis.
  • Laboratory validation experience including ESD practices and construction of test setups.
  • Familiarity with tools: Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Calibre, EMX, AMS mixed-signal simulation and MATLAB.

Education Requirements

Degrees and equivalent experience: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, Master's plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years; equivalent practical experience considered where noted in minimum qualifications.
