Job Title
Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Join Acacia's mixed-signal IC team developing high-speed analog designs for optical transceivers used in data center and telecom networks. The role focuses on architecting, designing, laying out, measuring and productizing ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog/mixed-signal blocks for 25Gb/s and higher link speeds.
This hybrid role works on-site in San Jose three days per week and collaborates with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to integrate AMS blocks into complex ASICs.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 8+ years of relevant experience; lesser years may be acceptable with advanced degrees or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
Design and deliver high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC blocks from concept through production in a small, collaborative IC design team.
- Architect, simulate, layout and verify high-speed AMS circuits and blocks for optical transceivers.
- Lead a large block on complex chips; set technical direction and track deliverables.
- Mentor junior engineers and participate in peer reviews to ensure robust design methodology.
- Collaborate with package, hardware and system teams to meet signal and power integrity targets.
- Hands-on lab measurement, characterization and productization of ICs; support test setup and validation.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability and reliability constraints (PVT, EM, IR drop, self-heating).
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills. Preferred items listed as nice-to-have.
-
Must-have: Experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers and data converters, high-performance output drivers, phase-locked loops, clock distribution, opamps/programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
-
Must-have: Practical experience with mixed-signal simulation and layout verification tools (examples in preferred section).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with FinFET/GAA technologies, high-frequency floorplanning and passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with design-for-manufacturability, characterization over PVT, electromigration/IR-drop analysis, ESD practices, and building lab test setups.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Calibre, EMX, AMS mixed-signal simulation flows and MATLAB.
Education Requirements
Posting specifies degree-plus-experience combinations: Bachelor's degree with 8+ years related experience, Master's with 6+ years, or PhD with 3+ years of related experience.
