Job Title
Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Member of the Mixed Signal Design team developing high-speed, high-accuracy analog/mixed-signal ICs for optical transceivers. Work within Acacia to design, verify, and productize ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS blocks and collaborate with digital/DSP, package, system and module teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. Requires multiple years of industry experience; see Education Requirements for the employer's degree-plus-experience combinations.
Responsibilities
Key duties include leading complex analog/mixed-signal blocks through the full IC life cycle and collaborating across engineering teams.
- Architect, design, layout, characterize, and productize ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for optical communications.
- Lead a large functional block on complex chips, track deliverables, and mentor junior team members.
- Perform peer reviews and establish robust design methodology from concept to production.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop, validate, and debug high-speed transceiver circuits in laboratory environments.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and practical skills; preferred items listed separately.
- Proven experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (SERDES, data converters), system link modeling, high-performance output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock transmission/propagation, opamps/programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with circuit verification, characterization across PVT corners, and design-for-manufacturability considerations (e.g., electromigration, self-heating, IR drop).
- Lab validation experience including ESD practices and constructing test setups; ability to debug silicon and validate measurements.
- Experience with design and simulation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, AMS mixed-signal simulation flows, layout validation tools (Virtuoso, Calibre), EMX, and Matlab.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable), FinFET and GAA process technologies, and high-frequency layout techniques including floorplanning and passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications specified by employer: Bachelors degree + 8 years related experience, or Masters + 6 years related experience, or PhD + 3 years related experience (degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a related technical field is implied). Equivalent practical experience may be acceptable per employer policy.
