Job Title
Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Member of the Acacia mixed-signal IC design team responsible for architecting, designing, laying out, measuring, and productizing ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog and mixed-signal blocks for high-speed optical transceivers.
Work in a small, cross-functional team collaborating with digital/DSP, system, package and module design groups; the position is hybrid with three days per week expected in the San Jose, CA office.
Experience Level
Senior β the posting specifies senior-level experience (examples: Bachelors + 8 years, Masters + 6 years, PhD + 3 years).
Responsibilities
Design, verify, and productize high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC blocks and lead complex block-level efforts.
- Architect, design, simulate and layout high-speed AMS circuits (serializer/deserializer, data converters, PLLs, output drivers, opamps/PGAs, equalizers).
- Perform characterization, laboratory validation and measurement of ICs; ensure designs meet signal and power integrity specifications.
- Lead a large block on complex chips: set deliverables, mentor junior engineers, and participate in peer design reviews.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams on interfaces, signal/power integrity, and system-level modeling.
- Track design schedule and support transition from prototype to production, including manufacturability analysis.
Requirements
Must-haves: demonstrated, hands-on experience designing and measuring high-speed ICs and working knowledge across multiple AMS areas listed below.
- Practical experience in design, simulation and measurement of high-speed ICs in at least three of these areas: high-speed serial links (SERDES), system link modeling, high-performance output drivers, PLLs, clock distribution/propagation, opamps/programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
- Experience with high-frequency layout and floorplanning for mixed-signal designs (power/ground segregation, analog/digital routing).
- Experience with laboratory validation and test setup construction, including ESD practices.
- Proficiency with design and simulation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, mixed-signal AMS simulations, layout verification tools (Calibre), and Matlab.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with FinFET and GAA process technologies.
- Experience with passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines) and EM/IR/electromigration analysis for manufacturability and reliability.
- Experience with EM extraction tools (EMX) and advanced layout validation.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualification: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of related experience, or Master's degree plus 6 years of related experience, or PhD plus 3 years of related experience.
