Job Title
Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - Acacia
Role Summary
Engineer on the Acacia mixed-signal IC design team developing high-speed analog/mixed-signal circuits for optical transceivers (100Gβ1.6T+). The role focuses on architecture, design, layout, measurement and productization of ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog designs and requires collaboration with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams. This is a hybrid role (three days per week onsite) based in San Jose, CA.
Experience Level
Senior. See Education Requirements for required years of related experience tied to degree level.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading design efforts for complex mixed-signal blocks and ensuring designs are production-ready.
- Architect, design, layout, simulate, and measure high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC blocks for optical transceivers.
- Lead efforts on large blocks of complex chips; set design methodology, track deliverables, and mentor junior engineers.
- Perform peer reviews and ensure design quality from conception through production.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity requirements.
- Develop laboratory validation setups and participate in silicon bring-up and characterization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven experience designing, simulating, and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (SERDES, ADC/DAC), system link modeling, high-performance output drivers, phase-locked loops (PLLs), clock distribution, op amps/programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS analog design and mixed-signal integration into ASICs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex IC design projects and mentor team members.
- Experience collaborating across digital/DSP, system, package and module design teams to meet interface and signal/power integrity specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred / Nice-to-have:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
- Experience in FinFET and GAA process technologies.
- High-frequency layout experience including floorplanning, analog/digital routing, and passive components (inductors, transformers, transmission lines).
- Design-for-manufacturability experience: PVT characterization, electromigration, self-heating and IR-drop analysis.
- Laboratory validation and ESD practices; experience building test setups for high-speed devices.
- Familiarity with design and simulation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Calibre, EMX, AMS mixed-signal simulation flows, and MATLAB.
Education Requirements
Minimum degree/experience combinations specified by the posting: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of related experience, Master's degree plus 6 years of related experience, or PhD plus 3 years of related experience. No specific field of study or certifications were listed.
