Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia

Role Summary

Join Acacia's IC Design team in San Jose to architect, design, and productize ultra-deep-submicron CMOS transceivers for high-speed fiber-optic and electrical applications. The role focuses on block-level mixed-signal design, verification, measurement, and cross-functional collaboration with packaging and hardware teams.

Hybrid position: three days per week onsite in San Jose, CA.

Experience Level

Senior — expects 7+ years of relevant experience. Typical equivalence provided: Bachelor's + 8 years, Master's + 6 years, PhD + 3 years.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Architect, design, layout, characterize, and productize CMOS high-speed ICs.
  • Lead efforts for large blocks on complex chips, perform peer reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Define and apply robust design methodology from concept through production.
  • Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required. Education and degree equivalence are summarized separately below.

  • Proven experience designing, simulating, and measuring high-speed ICs across multiple areas (for example: high-speed serial links, high-performance output drivers, equalization techniques).
  • Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
  • High-frequency layout experience including floorplanning and passive component integration.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability and laboratory validation practices.
  • Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, and mixed-signal/AMS simulation flows.
  • Familiarity with FinFET and GAA technologies (desirable).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of related experience, or Master's degree plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years of related experience. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree where stated.
