Analog/Mixed-Signal Design Engineer
BroadcomJob Title
Analog/Mixed-Signal Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design, simulate, and optimize high-performance transistor-level analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for advanced semiconductor process nodes. Work spans circuit design, physical layout verification, post-layout simulation, silicon bring-up, and lab characterization.
Experience Level
Senior level - role typically expects 8+ years of relevant industry experience; applicable senior titles include Staff, Senior, or Lead.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, verification, and lab characterization of analog/mixed-signal IP and subsystems.
- Design transistor-level and behavioral models for analog blocks (ADCs, DACs, bandgaps, LDOs, PLLs, power management, high-speed I/Os).
- Perform circuit simulation and optimization using SPICE and behavioral tools to meet performance, noise, and power targets.
- Oversee or create custom physical layouts and run post-layout extraction to minimize parasitics.
- Conduct silicon bring-up and lab testing: characterize IC performance, debug hardware issues, and iterate designs.
- Collaborate with ATE and test-engineering teams to develop test plans and resolve manufacturing/test issues.
- Document design decisions, simulation results, and test reports; support cross-functional reviews.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; includes preferred tools and practical capabilities.
- 8+ years of relevant analog/mixed-signal IC design experience (depending on seniority).
- Hands-on experience with transistor-level design of ADCs, DACs, PLLs, LDOs, bandgaps, power-management circuits, or high-speed I/Os.
- Proficient with Cadence design tools (e.g., Virtuoso, Analog Artist) and MATLAB.
- Experience with SPICE simulation, post-layout extraction, and correlating pre/post-layout results to silicon.
- Practical lab experience: silicon bring-up, measurement equipment, and debugging of hardware and mixed-signal failures.
- Ability to work with ATE engineers and produce testable designs and test plans.
- Nice-to-have: experience with advanced process nodes and behavioral/system-level modeling.
Education Requirements
Master's (MSEE) or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering preferred; a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering combined with extensive industry experience is acceptable. Equivalent practical industry experience may be considered.
