Analog Layout Design Engineer (Intern)

Role Summary

Internship on the analog physical design team based in Penang. The role supports layout implementation and verification of analog and mixed-signal blocks (ADCs, DACs, PLLs, high-speed interfaces, power circuits) for semiconductor products.

Work directly with senior layout and circuit designers to optimize layouts for performance, area, and power while following team methodologies and quality standards.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current undergraduate or graduate students; fixed-term student role. Prior industry experience is not required.

Responsibilities

The intern will contribute to layout and verification tasks and support debugging and documentation.

• Assist senior engineers with physical layout of analog and mixed-signal blocks (ADCs, DACs, PLLs, high-speed interfaces, power management).
• Perform layout verification tasks: DRC, LVS and antenna checks using industry-standard EDA tools.
• Collaborate with circuit designers to understand requirements and optimize layouts for performance, area, and power.
• Document layout methodologies and participate in design reviews.
• Help debug and resolve layout-related issues.
• Learn and apply the team's design methodologies and quality standards.

• Must-have: Basic understanding of analog circuit theory and semiconductor device physics.
• Must-have: Familiarity with IC layout concepts and design rules.
• Must-have: Analytical problem-solving skills and effective communication; ability to work independently and in a team.
• Must-have: Willingness to learn layout flows and verification procedures.
• Nice-to-have: Exposure to EDA tools such as Cadence Virtuoso or Mentor Graphics Calibre.
• Nice-to-have: Prior internship or project experience in semiconductor design.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (academic study in related disciplines acceptable).
