Job Title

Analog IC Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver analogue and mixed-signal subsystems for high-speed IC programmes (TIAs and laser drivers) from concept through validation and production. The role is part of a cross-functional IC development team based in Stansted (UK) and Ottawa (Canada) and reports to the Design Centre Manager.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” 0–2 years of relevant industry experience in analog IC design.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Own and develop key analogue subsystems within larger IC programmes (approx. 20%).
  • Deliver circuit and block-level analogue designs meeting performance, power, area, and reliability targets (approx. 20%).
  • Collaborate with layout engineering to ensure post-layout performance and parasitic-aware optimisation (approx. 15%).
  • Support verification, correlate simulations with lab measurements during validation and bring-up (approx. 10%).
  • Work with Product, Test, Verification, Reliability, and Product Engineering teams to align designs with system requirements (approx. 10%).
  • Contribute to circuit innovation and continuous improvement of analogue design methodologies (approx. 10%).
  • Communicate technical work and present results to engineering teams and stakeholders (approx. 10%).
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions to meet programme schedules (approx. 5%).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 0–2 years practical experience in Analog IC design.
  • Strong understanding of CMOS/BiCMOS analogue circuit design principles and semiconductor device physics.
  • Good grounding in circuit theory, device behaviour, and design trade-offs (performance, power, area).
  • Experience using Cadence design and simulation tools.
  • Ability to collaborate across layout, verification, test, and product teams; strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Exposure to RF / high-speed analog design (10 GHz+).
  • Experience with Laser Driver and/or TIA circuit design.
  • Understanding of RF/analog layout principles (floorplanning, parasitics, matching, ESD, crosstalk, IR drop).
  • Experience with high-frequency passive design (inductors, T-coils) and 3D modelling techniques.
  • Knowledge of device modelling (Verilog-AMS, SystemVerilog or equivalent) and DFM/yield optimisation concepts.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline is required. A Master’s degree (MSc) or specialised analogue IC design training is preferred. The posting does not state an explicit equivalency clause for experience in place of a degree.
