Analog Design Staff Engineer, SerDes
SynopsysJob Title
Analog Design Staff Engineer, SerDes
Role Summary
Senior analog/mixed-signal design engineer responsible for leading the design, verification, tape-out, and silicon bring-up of analog blocks and subsystems used in high-speed serial interfaces (SerDes) and related mixed-signal IP. The role partners with layout, digital, validation, and product teams to deliver production-quality silicon.
Experience Level
Level: Senior. Minimum 5 years of hands-on analog or mixed-signal IC design experience (posting specifies a 5+ year minimum).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include conceptualizing and delivering transistor-level designs through production and supporting cross-functional integration.
- Lead design and development of analog and mixed-signal circuits, blocks, and subsystems from concept to production.
- Develop architecture proposals and evaluate trade-offs for performance, power, area, and cost under real project constraints.
- Run circuit simulation, verification, and optimization using SPICE/Spectre or equivalent tools.
- Own tape-out activities, silicon bring-up, lab characterization, debug, and closure between simulation and silicon.
- Partner with layout engineers to ensure manufacturability and robustness of designs in silicon.
- Define and execute validation plans focused on meeting product requirements.
- Review specs, schematics, and lab results; drive technical design reviews and corrective actions.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across projects.
- Work cross-functionally with system, digital, validation, and product teams to resolve issues and keep projects on schedule.
- Drive improvements in design methodologies and best practices.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience required to perform successfully in this role, followed by concise nice-to-have items.
- Must-have: Minimum 5 years hands-on analog and/or mixed-signal IC design experience.
- Deep understanding of transistor-level circuit design and analysis; comfortable with schematics and simulation results.
- Proficiency with SPICE/Spectre or equivalent circuit simulation tools for design and debug.
- Practical experience with silicon debug, characterization, and use of lab equipment to correlate simulation with silicon.
- Knowledge of design methodologies for robustness, reliability, and testability in production chips.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers or leading technical discussions.
- Hands-on approach to bench and simulation when diagnosing issues.
- Experience using AI tools during circuit design and verification processes.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with high-speed interfaces (SerDes), data converters, regulators, bandgap references, power management, or sensors.
- Familiarity with deep submicron CMOS processes and high-speed serial links (MIPI C-PHY/D-PHY, USB, etc.).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required per the posting; Master’s or PhD is preferred. (The posting lists degree fields and a preference for advanced degrees.)
