Analog Design Staff Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Analog Design Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver analog and mixed-signal circuits used in SerDes IP. Work within the Solutions Group alongside digital RTL, layout, verification, and characterization teams to implement, verify, and bring up analog sub-blocks from concept through electrical characterization.
Experience Level
Senior-level.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities:
- Ensure analog sub-block performance meets SerDes standards and architecture specifications.
- Identify and refine circuit implementations to achieve power, area, and performance targets.
- Define and apply design and verification strategies using simulator features effectively.
- Oversee physical layout to minimize parasitics, device stress, and process variation.
- Partner with digital RTL engineers on verification of calibration, adaptation, and control algorithms.
- Present simulation data for peer and customer review and document design features and test plans.
- Take ownership of analog and mixed-signal building blocks integrated into larger SerDes designs and consult on electrical characterization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Transistor-level circuit design experience for analog and mixed-signal building blocks.
- Silicon-proven implementation experience for analog/mixed-signal IP.
- Experience with SerDes sub-circuits (receive equalizers, data samplers, voltage/current-mode drivers, serializers/deserializers, VCOs, phase interpolators, DLL/PLL, bandgap, ADC, DAC).
- CMOS layout optimization to reduce parasitic R/C and minimize local device mismatch and proximity effects.
- Awareness of ESD techniques and design-for-reliability issues (electro-migration, IR drop, aging).
- Experience with EDA tools for schematic entry, physical layout, and design verification; knowledge of SPICE simulators and Verilog-A for modeling.
- Familiarity with scripting/programming such as TCL, Perl, C, Python, and MATLAB.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Education Requirements
MSc required with 4+ years of SerDes/high-speed analog design experience (as stated in the posting).
