Analog DevicesJob Title
Analog Design Engineering Intern (Audio)
Role Summary
Intern on the Consumer Audio analog/mixed-signal design team in Edinburgh. Contribute to transistor-level design, modelling, simulation and verification of high-performance audio IC blocks while working alongside experienced analog, mixed-signal, digital and layout engineers.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship intended for current undergraduate or graduate students (internship/co-op).
Responsibilities
Work on real IC development activities across design, verification and integration for consumer audio mixed-signal products.
- Conduct circuit architecture research and feasibility studies.
- Design, simulate and verify analog and mixed-signal IC blocks under engineering guidance.
- Develop simulation testbenches and verify performance across process, voltage and temperature corners.
- Analyse circuit performance and evaluate trade-offs: noise, distortion, power, area and robustness.
- Collaborate with layout engineers during physical implementation and reviews.
- Participate in technical and design reviews and support block integration and system verification.
- Contribute to behavioural/system-level modelling and silicon evaluation where appropriate.
Requirements
Key technical and interpersonal requirements. Degree pursuit details are listed separately under Education Requirements.
- Must-have: Good understanding of analog circuit fundamentals and CMOS device operation.
- Familiarity with common analog building blocks: amplifiers, comparators, references, bias circuits and oscillators.
- Understanding of feedback, frequency response and circuit stability.
- Some experience with circuit simulation and electronic design tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; good written and verbal communication; able to work collaboratively.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with transistor-level IC design and Cadence Virtuoso/Spectre.
- Knowledge of ADCs/DACs or delta-sigma conversion and Class-D amplifiers or other audio signal-chain circuits.
- Familiarity with switched-mode power supplies (buck, boost, charge-pump).
- Experience with MATLAB, Python or similar tools and with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, precision audio measurement).
- Demonstrated interest in analog IC design and audio.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a BEng, MEng, MSc or PhD in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics or a closely related discipline.
